Davide Chiumello, MD

Dr. Chiumello graduated cum laude in Medicine at the University of Milan in 1989. He received his medical licensure in 1995 and specialized in anesthesia and intensive care medicine at the University of Milan in 1999. His research fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine was done at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada from 1996 to 1997 (Director Prof. A.S. Slutsky). Then he worked as an intensivist in the General Intensive Care unit of Fondazione IRCCS CA’ GRANDA Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milano, Italy for five years. He has been working as head of Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at ASST Santi Paolo Carlo Milano since 2016. 

Dr. Chiumello’s research work has focused on understanding the pathological and clinical aspects of acute respiratory distress syndrome. He has a particular interest in respiratory physiology, esophageal pressure, lung recruitment, lung imaging, ventilator-induced lung injury, the prone position, controlled and assisted mechanical ventilation, and non-invasive ventilation. He is the author of more than 130 scientific articles and more than 30 chapters in medical textbooks. Dr. Chiumello is also the reviewer for over 10 international Journals. From 2009 to 2015 Dr. Chiumello worked as Editor in Chief of the journal Minerva Anestesiologica (official journal of Società Italiana di Analgesia, Anestesia e Terapia Intensiva). Now he is member of Editorial Board of several well-known journals like Critical Care Medicine, World Journal of Critical Care Medicine and Journal of Critical Care.
